It is covered with snow and large masses of ice. One of its main characteristics, the average temperature is below zero. But something unusual happened last week at Argentine bases in Antarctica, says 24 hours.

At the Marambio base, 17.4 degrees were registered on Monday, March 23 of this year. The next day at the Esperanza base, a record temperature of 17.5 degrees. Data provided by the National Meteorological Service of Argentina, where they explain that the phenomenon is due to a high pressure center.

According to the World Archive of Weather and Climate Extremes of the World Meteorological Organization - which operates the University of Arizona - the maximum temperature in Antarctica in 1974 marked 15 degrees. The record at Argentine bases could set a new record.
